James Ellroy Murder By The Book

Posted by Backyard Urban Gardening on Wednesday, November 15, 2006

I watched the James Ellroy feature on Court TV Monday night featuring the writing of My Dark Places.

I haven't read anything he's written, and haven't seen Black Dahlia in the theatres yet or read the book, but I did think the program offered some insight into his creative process and what drives him to create his popular crime novels.

Did anyone else get a chance to see the program?

I watched it -- very interesting program and yes, a lot of insight into Ellroy's motivations as a storyteller. He's blunt and straightforward and has a distinctive way of expressing himself -- though I haven't read his books, I wonder if his style of spoken expression carries over into his writing style.

I am glad I'm not the only one who noticed his peculiar speech patterns. I've put My Dark Places on my list of books to read.
