I discovered the music of Iris Dement by accident, but her music has touched a part of me that I didn't know existed. Iris Dement sings folk, gospel and country music genres and writes most of her own lyrics. Her singing reminds me of Allison Kraus and Emmylou Harris, but I believe her writing is one-step better.

I love Iris Dement. I discovered her by accident, too.
I first saw her and heard her singing in the movie, SONGCATCHER starring Aidan Quinn.
Great movie! I suggest you rent it if you can find it.
